I assume most of us are already quite aware that the villains have ways of making traffic difficult or impossible to use, even if it is lawfully intercepted. CALEA will probably catch a few really dumb crooks, but that's about it. It's being done because it's (basically) a law. That's it. If you don't like it (and I'm sure a lot of folks on this list don't like it, even if they're hesitant to admit publicly to that fact), try to change it. Ranting may make people feel better but it doesn't accomplish very much.
