I've not had good luck with those. I'm moving to polyphaser units. As I recall, they are only $30 to $50 from EC.

It seems to me that it would be no different than a phone line - - if you
do not surge protect it you stand the chance of losing your radios just like
folks always lose their modems in their PC's.
