I have seen several HP laptops - nothing really good or bad about them, they're just out there.
I am a die hard fan of Thinkpad, Thinkpads for me. Thinkpad moved their manufacturing half to Lenovo. I just bought our new employee a $500 Lenovo from Systemax/Infotel and I'm quite impressed. There are touch sensitive buttons for media, the screen has NO latch to break (it's magnetic or part of the hinge). The keyboard isn't quite Thinkpad goodness but is still better then most. The screen is awfully reflective. Battery LEDs on the chassis itself is also a bonus. Great specs for an installer. Also I should note Butch Evans has used a Lenovo for years - he has proven his laptop works quite well as a Linux workstation. I only wish I could make that leap. For $500 I couldn't be happier - I need to get one myself (ethernet port fried) but I need it dock capable. Not sure if Lenovo offers that.
