Is one end lower than the other? If so, there could be a duct that is steering the signal or reflecting it away from the intended path. Generally though, that would be reciprocal, but not always. I had a tropospheric event this morning. Such events are way beyond the statistical norm for my area already this year.

What has your weather been like? I have seen episodes of tropospheric ducting do that. I had episodes earlier this summer where I had several days of some serious ducting events. It's usually when a cooler layer of stale air is trapped by warmer upper air. Can you get your hands on an analyzer? Like I said, the Metageek WiSpy and software is a great little tool for the money. It runs great on my netbook. If I had a 5.8 version I'd overnight it to you.
