The picture of the device in the PDF sure looks more like a four port/device product than an eight port/device product. It only shows four (1-4) LED indicator lights and it appears the top four ports are labeled as "Data" and the corresponding bottom four ports are labeled as "POE". This leads me to believe it functions more like four PoE or DC injectors in one box than an eight port switch.
IMO, a design like I describe would be more desirable anyway as many operators dedicate each backhaul radio or AP to its own port on a router anyway. We do not tie any of our radios at HUB sites to a common switch. We use multi-interface x86 MikroTik routers at HUB sites or RB493AH routers and route each sector or backhaul radio on its own port. I like the voltage flexibility it offers (12V-58V) and the ability to use redundant power supplies. What I'd like to see is something similar to this, but in a compact, shallow depth 1U form, higher port count (maybe 12 or 16 ports) and the ability to reverse polarity via dip switch or jumper setting on a per port basis. It also doesn't have to be an active Ethernet device (just another Ethernet chip to worry about failing), but make it a passive Ethernet pass through like most DC injectors are designed. Anybody using it? Comments? Thank you -- Ing. Paolo Di Francesco Teleinform s.r.l.
