My first guess would be local noise on the CPE end. Second would be a
hardware issue.

I have used that, but not here.  
It is not an IP issue, the radios drop association due to excessive errors,
per the CPE.  I have never seen the AP drop the link in the log.

have you folks started using MTR instead of ping?

 

MTR is like a traceroute on steroids 

 

In short - it combines the functionality of the traceroute tool and ping
application together :-)

 

It shows you packet loss across the path in real time 

 

very simple to use - but a command line tool 

 

mtr ip

 

ie  mtr 192.168.134.2
