Al, Do you need to change the channel on both the router and your laptop? If you need to change the channel on only your laptop, your router may be detecting the 'bad' channel and auto-switching to a new channel. If that is the case, you will need to check with the vendor of your laptop's WLAN card if they have any additional software or a driver update that has this capability. BTW, there is a standard that defines how the access point (or router in your case) can switch to a 'good' channel and inform everyone in the network of the change so that it is transparent to the user. However the standard was originally defined for the 5Ghz band (802.11a only) and it is not clear when the various WLAN vendors will adapt it to the 2.4GHz band (802.11b and 802.11g).
