Briefly, this is what I have: A wireless AP and LAN in my camp which is line of site (more or less) to my son in law's camp about 1 mile or less away who also has a wireless LAN. I can receive his signal on my 18db roof antenna BUT I want to retransmit his signal from the roof antenna which has a "pigtail" with a male N connector. Yes, I can use a cable but I prefer to go the wireless route from the antenna to my LAN - "bridging" his LAN to my LAN using only Ethernet cat 6 with an POE connection to provide power and a signal to the Bridge which I envision mounting on the antenna mast in a waterproof box.
