Hi, > Is there any software spectrum analyzers available that works on both 2.4Ghz and 5.8Ghz?(preferably free).
Symbol offer a free software spec-an for their FHSS cards, and this covers 2400-2500MHZ. The software runs in DOS (u remember that?!) and doesnt seem to have the facility to save the image that is on the screen, so a bit annoying. The 2400-2500 range is probably limited by the front end filter in the card and/or the tuning range limit of the rx in the card. I've not seen any 5GHz spectrum analysers that are software. BTW, with spec-an's you tend to get what you pay for. Free software ones will give you a rough idea, but compared to even old HP / Anritsu stuff, they are utterly rubbish. If you are serious about RF work, keep an eye on ebay for an old HP141 or similar. Regarding reflection/refraction, there are quite a few factors in determining the reflection / refraction point, such as tx and rx antenna beamwidth, polarity, power, reflecting item material, edge orientation etc.. regards, Paul http://www.qsl.net/m0eyt ------------------------ Yahoo!
