Symbol Technologies Wireless Security Advisor Appointed Chairman of 
Wi-Fi Alliance

Symbol Technologies, Inc. , the Enterprise Mobility Company(TM), 
today announced the appointment of Clint Chaplin, Symbol's wireless 
security advisor and lead on the wireless standards team, as Wi-Fi 
Alliance chairman. Prior to his appointment as chairman, Chaplin 
held the technical chair position at Wi-Fi Alliance.

educating consumers and enterprises on Wi-Fi technology," said Frank 
Hanzlik, Managing Director, Wi-Fi Alliance. "Clint Chaplin brings to 
the Alliance the necessary leadership to further grow the Wi-Fi 
brand and technology."

Chaplin has more than 25 years of engineering experience in computer 
technology, and is responsible for driving education, development, 
and technical direction for Symbol's wireless industry standard 
initiatives. He was instrumental in Symbol's implementation of the 
Kerberos security standard into its wireless products. Chaplin co-
founded, and currently serves as the chairperson for the IEEE 
802.11r task group for wireless roaming, and previously served as 
the Symbol delegate for the IEEE 802.11i task group for wireless 
security.

Alliance," said Chaplin. "I look forward to leading the 
organization, and expand the Wi-Fi brand into new and emerging 
markets as the Wireless LAN market continues to grow worldwide."

Chaplin earned a Bachelors of Science in Electronic Engineering, a 
Masters of Science in Computer Science, and a Masters of Engineering 
with a concentration in high-speed digital communications from 
California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. 

In August 1999, Symbol Technologies co-founded the Wi-Fi Alliance 
with other technology companies to drive the adoption of a globally 
accepted standard for high-speed, wireless, local area networking.
