Jon -- I suspect that the problem actually lies with exchange - we have a similar situation: one machine with witango and a mail server (in our case Mercury) that is locked down, and an extra SMTP server on port 26 for Witango to use sending mail. It works fine, and bombs every time we try to 'allow' it to send through Mercury. So I know Witango can use the alternate port. If you've edited the ini file, stopped and restarted Witango and confirmed that the changes are indeed still in the ini file, i'd look into Exchange and see if perhaps it is blocking other ports for SMTP traffic. Try putting the alternate SMTP server on another computer and see if it works there. If so, then you'll be sure to know where the problem lies. Might not help you solve it, but at least you'll know... :(
