The banner manager may add 10-30 rows, but I'm sure it's a function of
the size of the array and the datatypes within it too.

How many addrows is considered numerous?  I've used it before many times
and have never had the performance problem you describe.  Perhaps there
is a threshold where the performance becomes poor.
