Hi dude,
I don't think your problems are necessarily related. Files come off CD with
read only set. It's a nuisance.

For search and replace, I would guess most of us have our own solution other
than the Witango editor, because of the limitations you mention. OS X and
*ix users have more options. For windows, Textpad works. You need to open
all the files, but textpad is happy opening hundreds of files, and it's
quick. There's no need to be shy about opening .taf's in Textpad.

If these are .taf or .tml files, all your phone numbers, email addresses etc
should be variables. Fix your problem once and for all by replacing the
phone number with an application variable.

Good luck
Simon

Subject: Witango-Talk: Anyone Seen This Before?

Witango 2000
NT 4.0 sp6

I have a site that was given to me on a CD. When you copy files from
a CD to the server, the default attributes are read only. Before I
changed the attributes, I created a project and added all the read
only files to it (around 40 files) so I could edit the files. The
editor started acting really whacky. I couldn't place the cursor
anywhere but the beginning of a line so I figured out that I had to
change all the file attributes by removing read only. Now everything
seemed to work fine (Icould place the cursor where I wanted), but
when I try to do a find and replace on all files, the editor will
sometimes hang or it will take a very long time. Sometimes the whole
editor window and the find and replace box will go white. Also,
sometimes the replace won't work at all and I have to do a find, then
replace by a paste.

I tried deleting the project and creating a new one and adding the
files, but still get the same whacky results. I also tried copying
the files to another directory and creating the project again but
still the same.

All my other projects seem to work as I expect with no problems
(around 40 projects). This isn't a big deal, but it gets frustrating
when the client calls and wants to change the phone number (on every
page) and I have to do a find then paste the new number in.

Any Ideas? The file attributes are now set exactly like all the other
html and taf files that I have on the server.

Thanks!
