Ben,

They already did that! Way back when they first created Tango. (1995?)

If you use FileMaker Pro as your datasource, you're automatically 
returned the recordID of the newly created record... "by default".

So... why not hook up a FileMaker Pro datasource to generate 
RecordID's... I mean you're all trying (way too hard) to "lock" or 
"Transaction Block" your "Multi Threaded" databases anyway so that they 
behave "just like FileMaker Pro"... ???
