> Obviously Ben is not an old Mac person
I thought this was common knowledge ;-)
Though, I did start with my first computer being an Apple II and then an
Apple IIe.

This information was great,
I just have one question
"What is it for FirstClass?" :)

Subject: OT - FirstClass (was RE: RE: Witango-Talk: Setting Email
Priority)

Obviously Ben is not an old Mac person. In some ways, he should be very
grateful that FirstClass existed because without it, there might never
had
been a Tango or a Witango.

FirstClass was originally an inter-office mail application (or
groupmail)
developed by SoftArc for the Mac platform. One of it's claims to fame
was
that it had the ability to create conferences. These opened up in the
FirstClass client like a folder. Anything inside it could be shared
(with
permissions) with other users. The folks at EveryWare saw an opportunity
(or
the people at SoftArc did, I'm not sure) and developed a set of tools
that
allowed a FirstClass conference to communicate with Butler SQL to read
data
and to insert data. They never did get the update thing working. I
remember
seeing it as early as 1992-3 which was a few years before Tango was
born.

>From there, ButlerLink Web was developed which was the predessor to
Tango.
Tango 1.0 was launched in the fall of 1995 as a freebie for Butler.
Tango
for Windows was launched in the spring of 1996 (version 1.5) and
supported
ODBC (and cost $), and Tango for Filemaker was launched later that
summer
(version 1.6).

BTW, SoftArc is now Centrinity and FirstClass is still there main
product.
Jim Geller (sp?), one of the old EveryWare QA people was working in
their QA
department.

Hope this little history lesson helps,

Steve Smith
