I tried both FirstClass and Telefinder to run BBS services, but settled on FirstClass for some reason I can't remember now it may indeed have been ButlerWeb - I thought that both of them had their strengths - they were great products, miles ahead of anything on any other platform that I was aware of. To be able to network with such ease and with such a familiar interface was awesome.
I must confess that when someone told me about the Internet, I thought it was a competitor to these products (which I guess in a way it was) and didn't understand what they were talking about until a year or so later when I saw Mosaic in operation. Makes you think about what we are working with now, and where we'll be in another ten years. Anyone out there who is good at forseeing IT trends? You think that more of us would have cottoned on to the Internet fact way before that anyway.
