MacODBC works on later versions from 10.2.3 and up, I think it is. The only problems I've had with earlier versions were with the GUI only, not performance.
I tried iODBC, but at the time, it was more difficult to set up than unixODBC. You might check the archives, I know there were several emails on this subject. If you need more info, let me know.
