We had a similar issue with the iSend application we wrote. It is designed
to create a newsletter from recent additions to a content management system,
then send them to a list of subscribers. Unfortunately the T2K mail action
couldn't keep up and it failed after a short number of emails.
The way we got around it was by using the File Action instead and creating a
text file with the correct SMTP headers in the Submitted folder of our mail
server. The mail server just picks them up and sends them. If the mail
server were down it would pick them up once it was restored and no mail
would be lost.
