This is what I ran into when I first started the goodies list and still now.
People think that they can't compete, but, everyone sees the box a little differently and I tell you there are some ideas the "like" haven't thought of. When I first envisioned the Goodies List, I thought wouldn't it be a great learning experience, someone pasts code up and someone else looks at it an says "it would be more efficient if it was setup this way" and the initial submitter and the commenter work together and create version 2 (this is why I had a version number under goodies). We all learn. In setting up the goodies site, I thought there were minimum components up on the old component zone at the P Company, because the components went through a review to see if it was worth. So I thought if I setup a way that people could submit goodies without the fear of review, there would be more submitted. Sadly this was no the case, the issue you brought up about being compared to the "likes" is the biggest reason the goodies and new component zone are lacking in submissions The other point is... How do you know its value till you post it? You will be surprised. The last time I looked I have never seen anyone come on the list and say "hey poster this is a piece of crap" ;-) If there is any consolation Scott is a Judge so you won't be competing against him and frankly I know he submits to this list to help and not to show anyone up. It is not in his nature ;-) Ben Johansen - http://www.pcforge.com Authorized Witango Reseller http://www.pcforge.com/WitangoGoodies.htm Authorized MDaemon Mail Server Reseller http://www.pcforge.com/AltN.htm -----Original Message----- From: Campbell Steve [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, August 13, 2003 2:40 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Witango-Talk: Come one, Come All to the -Great Componet Contest.- This is a great idea! I would love to submit some of my componets that I have made over the years, but when it comes to those of the calibre of Scott Cadillac and the likes, then mine is but "kiddie league". I would hope that sometime you would do this with different categories. But, in the meantime, it sure doesn't hurt to submit something to build up a great archive. I for one would dedicate bandwidth and space for such a great componet archive. I know you all already have all that laid out, but I would be first in line to submit some just to maybe include mine and have more to select from. Thanks a lot, Ilove this community Steve Forerunners Org ________________________________________________________________________ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: Go to http://www.witango.com/maillist.taf ________________________________________________________________________ TO UNSUBSCRIBE: Go to http://www.witango.com/maillist.taf
