It has to do with the character encoding of the email. Most email programs will successfully interpret the '=20' as a space, but not all. You can get rid of that by changing the encoding of the email to 'US ASCII' instead of the default ISO selection. We see that mostly with SMS messages we generate, but I've seen some mail programs show that as well.
