I'm at my wits end here.

I've been fighting with recalcitrant unix for months now and I just don't
get it. Not only that but it seems it's some sort of secret nerd club that
you have to know the handshake for before you get the secrets.

I'm no dummy. I can usually nut my way around pretty much anything but the
problems here seem to be more liveware related. By that I mean, people wrote
unix, people wrote the 'man' files, people wrote OS X and people wrote
Witango. Do none of these people talk to each other?

Witango 5.0X on OS X was, from my point of view, an absolute bug fest. From
processes hanging and quitting to record IDs being returned as numbers with
6 decimal places, to APPFILEPATHs not working in branched TAFs.

So I was advised to try the beta. It uses different folder structure and
startup scripts and by the time I had that and a restart procedure in place
the bloody licensing had expired. Apparently those on the Beta list got sent
an extension. I'm not on the list. I came in too late.

So eventually I am sent the latest FC and associated files. Apparently many
bugs (including the APPFILEPATH one I reported) are fixed. Still doesn't
recognise the license. I've been seeking clarification of why this is
happening and what I can do about but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

So now I'm trying to go back to 5.0X but the startup scripts have to be
changed back. I edit them and then can't save them (I assume it's a
permission thing). So I save to the desktop, change permissions, force copy
them to the correct folder and now they are not recognised as executable.

I feel like I keep running down extremely long corridors only to come up
against locked doors.

I have $10K invested in a X Serve and Witango license and have nothing in
return but frustration.

Can somebody please tell me where I've got to go or what I've got to spend
to get this thing running. I am so freaking fed up with this.
