Deleted the DSN from witango studio (5.5), which deleted the DSN from the .ini file
Recreated the DSN
Restarted witango studio and the DNS appeared again
Entered username/password BUT NOT the “remember” check box. If I checked it, it caused the same problem.

Is this a dialog box that appears within your Witango Dev Studio? You don't mention which version of Witango you are using, but I'll pass on the problem that I've seen. For those data sources that are set NOT to ask for username/password, every so often I'll get one that gives me the same message that you are reporting. When I go into the development tab of the properties (not the modify), instead of seeing x number of 'dots' to represent the password, it is almost always 3 dots which is far less than the password should be. When I re-enter the correct password, the data source works fine.
I'm still using Witango 5.0.9.

I can connect via jdbc admin tools just fine, also.
