Technically no, you only need the plugin/cgi, the clients.ini file and
the appropriate registry keys. However, WT does not provide a
'client-only' installation option, so you're stuck doing a manual job if
having the server installed bothers you. I just install normally and
then set my Witango Server service to manual so it doesn't start.

The installer does add a reg key, which is why Witango can't find its
folder. I don't know the key off hand, but it's going to be in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\WITHENTERPRISE (something). If you're
experienced with regedit, you can try moving/recreating the keys, but
I'll warn anyone reading this that changing your registry can cause
damage, including corruption of the OS.

You might want to see if someone at WT's support dept will email you the
exact keys you need.

Robert

Subject: Witango-Talk: clients.ini on server without WAS installed
pointing to WASers on other boxes

Problem: clients.ini on server without WAS installed pointing to WASers
on
other boxes.

Does anyone know if you MUST have the 5.5 server installed on a box
(Windows 2003 Server) that you simply want to be a web server -- with
the
directory structure to the clients.ini (and only the clients.ini),
pointing to WASers on different boxes?

It appears that way...or I'm doing something wrong. I've poked around
in
the windows registry and environment variables to see if the install
sets
a path someplace but don't see anything. Thanks.

Here's the error:
----------------------------
Client/Plug-in Error
Unable to initialize the client's environment.
Unable to get the file path for the config file: clients.ini. Check that
the witango configure path has been set properly.

Thanks,
Matt
