I would always advice to use JDBC,
i had to much trouble in the past with odbc and mostly ODBC uses JDBC to communicate.
That means:
<Server:ODBC> -> <Server:JDBC> -> <Client:JDVC> -> <Client:ODBC> Instead of going direct <JDBC> -> <JDBC>
