It does sound like a purgecache domain
issue. What does your witangoevents.log say is happening when you purge the
cache?

Yep. The other
strange thing is when I load the same cron using the same url in a browser it
sees the new file, but when it is executed in the cron it is executing the old
file …

purging the cache for all domains?
