Something we could do, as developers, at little or no real cost...
Start keeping the snippets and small projects on SourceForge. If we were to put some of the small things we've given away, or are willing to give away, on SourceForge, that may increase the visibility of the platform. It would then start to show up as well in searches. It's a well-known place to look for resoureces, and is certainly well-built for that purpose. It's all well and good that there are Witango-specific sites out there, but they do go away at times (witness our own effort, witango.us). By using an established home for many projects on other platforms, this might be a better way to increase the visibility of the platform.
Many of the points raised are valid, on both 'sides' (not really the best way to put it) - the platform does need more visibility, but it is true that the cost to market effectively in the US is extremely high, and from what I understand, the US is a small part of the overall business that Witango does around the world. That said, if one of the things that make it more palatable to clients is the availability of resources, that is something that we as a group can easily address.
I'm going to try to put my money where my mouth is in the next day or so and put the CronTabEdit application up there. I just have to look at it and see what it was that I had to change to make it work with v5.5... it wasn't much, and if I can address that change with a conditional based on the server version it should run quite well on T2K, Witango 5 and Witango 5.5, Mac, Windows and Linux. The file will be totally open, and I'll post the instructions and notes that I've sent out with it in the past as well. Anyone is free to poke at it and improve it; just send changes back to me and I'll post it there as well.
Collectively we all have most of the little doo-dads that exist for PHP, ASP, etc in our 'boxes of tricks' that we all have and use over and over again. If we put them all out there in a place where people can find them, maybe that will help with the perception of the platform as a whole. I've had to get into ASP.NET on one of the projects I'm involved in at North Sails, but I most certainly intend to keep developing in Witango for public websites and intranet as long as I'm able. There is just no comparison in how quickly and modularly I can create what we need to get the job done using Witango.

Everything you are saying here has more to do with perception than with reality. The reason Wi probably has a stronger global community than a US community is that Wi is not in the Bay area and not nose deep in the PR spin machine. I'm not saying Wi needs to be in the US, but rather that it may be more difficult to pick up on how companies like Microsoft, Macromedia (now Adobe), Apple, Oracle and others do it simply by not being immersed in the buzz on a daily basis. In my minds eye, there is definitely a place for Witango on the landscape of web app tools, it is just that it is yet to be discovered, evangelized and publicized by the world at large.
