Yes, you can, but it is NOT simple, and not for the squeamish. I assume you mean, not on mac hardware, but pc hardware running windows, running vmware, or pc hardware running linux running vmware.

Look in the forums and wiki of http://www.osx86project.org/

It involves downloading hacked versions of the install dvd, or hacking yourself with patches and instructions. And know ahead of time, that apple strongly is fighting this.

If you are looking for a test bed for mac stuff, best bet is buy a mini, either new or used. The time you spend hassling with the above, would more than cover the cost.

I looked into it, before bootcamp came out, but I have 2 macbook pros now, they are incredible, and I mainly just use parallels.

For those of you in the know,

I am considering an attempt to install Mac OS X as a VMWare virtual machine, as a test environment for my apps with Safari and other Mac-based browsers. There are several unofficial instructions on how to do this, with a bit of searching.

My question is: Does the latest version of OS X automatically support Intel, or do I need a special version?

http://www.apple.com/macosx/

When I click on the link to buy, the hardware requirements simply says "PowerPC G5, G4 or G3 processor".

Any insight would be helpful, thanks.
