Never mind about the big question mark, I think your QTSS is down.

Just FYI, the quicktime movies are giving me a big ? in safari. This can happen if you are using older <embed tags that worked with QT 6, but don't work so well with QT 7.

Quicktime Pro, is great, and does allow alot of options to export, especially with WMV studio. However, if you compare the output you can get, and the speed of encoding, when you use open source tools like mencoder and/or ffmpeg, Quicktime falls short.

As an example, when you resize a movie in quicktime, it uses very poor algorithms in scaling. However, if you get compressor, from apple, it looks much better, because it uses different methods.

With mencoder/ffmpeg, you have tons of control over how you tweak for the content, its MUCH faster, and best of all, is easily scriptable with bash for batch processing.

For WMV, I haven't found anything better than the tools microsoft provides, and they have an extra download, so that you can batch convert to wmv over the command line also.

The best thing for them would be to be able to pull these things off the DVD
itself.

I use DVDxDV to pull the files off DVD. Then I can save them in a number of
formats. Generally I use Streaming MOV and WMV. Both of these can be
exported from QuickTime Pro or any QuickTIme editing software as long as you
have Flip4Mac's WMV Studio.
