Thats not the machine name, but just the canonical name for the ip
address. So your idea won't work. Because I can tell you, my other
computers in my office, will all give you the same ip and machine
name (canonical name), because I am behind one ip address, using NAT.
It is not possible to retrieve a computers machine name via http
attributes or javascript, as far as I know, and it would be a
security issue.
I think the best way to accomplish this, would be to drop a cookie,
however, the user could easily delete it.
If you prohibit users by ip, think of all the aol customers and
stuff, that may be dialing in, and the ip changes, and all the other
people in the world using NAT.

Hello
Well, it's been a while and I can promise you that I just don't
remember
some of the basic things. I have a simple, very simple taf that
records a
users information that is dumped into a database.
At the very first of the taf I am snagging their IP address and
machine
name. I am then needing to store this along with their other info
in my
database. Now, if they return again, I need for the Ip and/or
machinename
to kick them out when they hit the site the next time.
The taf is at http://world.forerunners.org/worg1.taf
Any help to blow the cobwebs and dust off would be appreciated
Steve
