Don't know anything about Windows, but can't you allow relaying only
from localhost using SMTP (port 25), and require authentication on
all other ports? Then your witango service on the same box should
work, and you don't have to run an open relay (which BTW would block
you from sending email to me). Likewise, if your Witango servers are
on other fixed IPs.
This is easy with postfix; so I presume it is do-able with Windows.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm still having trouble.
If I set up the mail server as an open relay, I can send messages
out, but
only to addresses in our own domain. And we instantly get spammers
using the
open relay.
If I set it up to require authentication I get the following error
from
Witango4: [Error] [16] -326 An invalid From address was specifed.
From Witango5 I get: [Error] [17] -326 An invalid From address was
specifed.
Error addressing email from <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: 530
5.7.3 Client
was not authenticated
How do I set the SMTP server up to trust the Witango servers? It's
on the
same machine as the Witango5 service.
Thanks
Dave

I don't know if this helps, but we had to specify the IP address of
our mail
server *and* use the port 587.
The only problem we _had_ (and fixed) was sending FROM a domain not
registered by our mail server.
All email must be from a valid domain. If using any person's email for
messages, make the "from:" be the valid domain and set them as
"reply-to"
(custom header) and probably as CC or BCC.

No idea on the secure POP3 issue. You will see the protocol
chatter in
@@results, which might help you understand what is going on.
One common spam defense for mailservers (SMTP servers) is to deny
"forwarding" (i.e. you are trying to send mail to a user at another
domain,
so the SMTP server will need to forward the message.) You might
want to
try
configuring your SMTP server to "trust" the Witango server.
Again, you
will
see more information in the resultSet.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to configure Witango4 to connect to a POP3
server
that requires secure authentication?
We're using Win2003 and the POP3 server that comes with it.
The weird thing is that we can send messages out to our own
domain, but
not to any other domain, such as gmail or hotmail.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dave Shelley
