I've only played with eclipse, but haven't committed to it.

My feeling is that it very hard for any company other than Microsoft to have the resources to develop best of breed everything. I just felt (4 years ago) that eclipse would * enable With to focus purely on the value added areas of the Witango Studio * give users the ability to use very high quality tools (better editor for example) and use other parts of the eclipse environment for the workflow (subversion for example).
* introduce a wider developer community to Witango.
* be cross-platform
* get there sooner
* enable a community to help create add-ins to facilitate witango development. For example just think about developing your Java beans in the same environment.

I'm not saying that a Java app isn't a good way to go, just that I wouldn't go that way myself.
