Witango-Talk: Does and @define act like a purge on a set user var?

Sorry for asking a RTFM question, but I lost my HD last week and  
rebuilding my life and haven't had time to download the PDF

the question is: If i have a user var set and then run a <@define> on  
that user var does it act like a purge?
