I have had some exprerience with SOCI. It is not bad library
I had even contributed some patches to it and used for quite
a long period in CppCMS.

Bottom line -- it is very nice library, but it has its problems:

1. Not equal support of various backends, in 3.0.0 Sqlite3 was removed
   and can be taken only from CVS
2. No support of last insert id that was critial for me.
3. In 3.0 the build system is total mess (at least for Unix)

I think that current CVS version should be better.

It has good potential and probably it would be the first
one you can check, but it really depends on your needs if you
can use it or not.

I had written DbiXX based on experience with SOCI. It is
simpler than it but thanks to libdbi has much more mature backend
support:
