Just to be certain, I checked out the public git version and repeated
the exercise. Still to no avail, your latest dialogDemo version runs
well (the dialog does not grow when resizing the window).

Could you put your version on a public server so that I can try to
find the difference, as it appears we are being plagued by ghosts ?
