My reading on the above indicates it says more of a "FSF has a problem
in considering Apache not being compatible with GPL", while Apache
guys are ok with it.

They only mention GPL 2 as "gpl 2 has the same problem".

Also they mention "unless lisensors of GPL software relax these
restrictions (the ones making GPL incompatible with apache license"

The incompatibility itself comes from some patent clauses of apache
lisense (basically the you agree not to sue us) bits, etc, which I
could not get my head around.

So IMHO as authors of WT, you are absolutely ok with including
log4cplus into WT, just add disclaimer that that that part is
distributed under apache lisense, and you "wave" any gpl requirements
that make it incompatible.

There are tons of GPL lisensed projects that use log4j, and they have
no problem.
