I think that'd make more mess. Maybe is best to just break backwards compatibility and rename them all. Can't be that many places that need updating :)
Or maybe do the empty proxy thing, but have it issue compiler warnings for deprecation for a few months, before removing the extensionless headers. but definitely would be messy as a permanent solution.
