Category: light Group: None >Status: Pending >Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Jaap de Wolff (de-wolff) Assigned to: Mike Carlson (micarls) Summary: light fails when adding VC_User_CRT71_RTL_X86_---.msm Initial Comment: When creating a wix project using merge module VC_User_CRT71_RTL_X86_---.msm light fails, with the following error. light.exe : error LGHT0001 : Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. Exception Type: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException Stack Trace: at Microsoft.Tools.WindowsInstallerXml.IMsmMerge2.Merge(String feature, Strin g directory) at Microsoft.Tools.WindowsInstallerXml.Binder.MergeModules(String databasePat h, Output output) at Microsoft.Tools.WindowsInstallerXml.Binder.Bind(Output output) at Microsoft.Tools.WindowsInstallerXml.Tools.Light.Run(String[] args) This is not a duplicate of bug item #1911165, as VC_User_CRT71_RTL_X86_---.msm does not contain a pid key. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Bob Arnson (barnson) Date: 2008-05-23 06:54 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=26581 Originator: NO I reverted the version of mergemod.dll for the time being. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: david (dextersinister) Date: 2008-05-16 16:30 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1376583 Originator: NO To de-wolff: I've added comments to #1911165 and uploaded new logs for RobMen [or whoever] to review. Just for grins, try your tests again ... but with one small change: open up a copy of VC_User_CRT71_RTL_X86_---.msm in Orca, drop the Shortcut table ... and then try building your WiX project. When I did this, the project built without any fatal errors ...
