I don't know whether this would cause us to re-issue WiX v2. You can easily swap out mergemod.dll. We're also hoping to hear it's a bug in mergemod.dll that has been/will be fixed. Just for grins, try your tests again ... but with one small change: open up a copy of VC_User_CRT71_RTL_X86_---.msm in Orca, drop the Shortcut table ... and then try building your WiX project. When I did this, the project built without any fatal errors ...
