I don’t think it’s deprecated (MSDN doesn’t say that). The _MSIExecute docs and the MSI team suggested an alternate method of detecting if an MSI install was already in process. That might be what you’re thinking of. Unfortunately the proposed method:
1. Has a built-in timing race that makes it unreliable. 2. It didn’t help that the example code posted wasn’t right.
