I was hoping to help out in this area, but I have been swamped with some other issues and don't have anything that I could contribute yet. I did install LinkChecker (http://wummel.github.io/linkchecker/) and scan just the v3.x manual area of the web site. It listed over 200 links with errors, but I have not had any time to analyse the results yet.
