For the two bugs I've fixed I've spent 99% of my time alpha testing the bug
tracking system, trying to figure out how to pull down code, trying to
figure out how to build, trying to figure out how to pull down the right
branch of code, trying to figure out build again with the right code,
trying to figure out how to commit, sync, use good form for checkin
comments and pull request, trying to figure out why I can't have 2 pull
requests for the same branch but different bugs and changesets and so on.

If WiX was an employer I'd sure I'd sit down at a new desk, meet my office
mate and grab a cup of coffee and bug him a few times during the course of
the first day to get the lay of the land. As a part time remote resource I
found it very difficult to do this.

At the end of the day I changed 3 simple lines of XML in 3 files. That was
1% of my time. And to be honest, I didn't live up to my own professional
standards as I never figured out how to build WiX all the way through to
installable format on my VM's. I built the UIExtension.dll and tried to
hand jam it into my VM but everything complained about strong name
versions. At the end of the day I looked at the XML and said to myself
"How could that possibly fail? I simply moved the & sign" and for the
other I looked at the MSBuild and copy pasted it into an existing project
to verify the results. I really would have liked to build an installer,
install it and then create brand new projects from scratch to do an end to
end test.

Several people here probably spent enough time answering my questions that
I was actually a drain on the project. :(

I'm sure it'll get better but for right now I don't feel too good about my
"contributions".

If its contents are already also in the correct branch, you should delete
that branch so the rest of us don't (continue to) get confused.
BTW, I fight with git on at least a weekly basis. At least I'm getting
better at it...
For me personally, Hg was easier to work with. However, I don't want to go
switching back and forth, so please don't reopen the debate.
I now have a couple of scripts that take care of maintaining a working
"enlistment" and keeping it up to date "correctly" with multiple work
branches. I may share them if people ask nicely and don't humiliate my
windows CMD scripting skills :)

LOL

Glad to know I'm not the only one that fights with Git. :)

I fought Git once and Git won one. Nothing was lost.
