IM is the possibly the best tool for remote collaboration - IRC, Jabber,
Skype etc. I work 3000 miles from colleagues and that's how a lot of my
interaction is done, with the occasional phone call. Mailing lists get
used quite a lot too - I've had over 15,000 emails this year.
