I have an application that installs both a new virtual directory and
client sided (windows based) tools. When installing both on a machine
with IIS there is no problems. However, when installing only the
client side tools the installer wants to talk with IIS which is not
install on the computer. I have track the problem to the Default
WebSite element under the Product element.
However, if I put the website element in component like the virtual
directory, this will over write an existing default website. Also if I
uninstall the application it will also remove the default site and any
existing virtual directories. Changing or removing other website or
virtual directories is not allowed.
I am looking for examples of how to install client tools on a machine
that does not have IIS even though WebSite element is defined within the
package.
