Subject: Re: [WiX-users] Addressing download failures in Burn driven MSI

Thank you for the information.

What are the drawbacks or risks of using bits:// protocol?

We target Windows 7/WS2008R2 and later with MSI ver 500, using WiX 3.9.1006.

I changed the 90 Mb cab file to use the bits:// protocol and I have not been
able to reproduce the failure in my tests since that change. Prior to the
change, while using http:// (with ten tries - 9 retires in ResolveSource) I
only reproduced the problem once. (Other remote testers using http:// with
the four tries as coded in the WixBA ResolveSource have claimed a 50%
failure always on the 90Mb cab file, but have not provided any information
to reproduce their configuration.) I have cranked the maximum bandwidth in
a VM down to 1MB among other things to try and cause failures. Any test
suggestions are appreciated. The next largest external payload in my bundle
driven setup is just over 20 Mb, but we have not seen any reports of those
files failing.

Thanks.
