How is WIXUI_INSTALLDIR used in your custom dialog? How does this dialog compare with the InstallDirDlg in WixUI_InstallDir? If there are differences, why are they different?
Indirect property references are used to get INSTALLDIR updated out of the UI. It appears this is broken in your case.
