I agree with you about the default WMState being spartan as it is. But you are the Debian maintainer of wmaker, you can make things happen regarding which dockapps you have on debian's default installation. And think about users out there who might want to try wmaker as an experiment before deciding what to use. If the default "desktop" they see is just a xterm and a clip, they might be thrilled by the minimallistic approach or they will move on to the next experiment as soon as they plug a USB stick and "nothing happens". So at least the wmvolman dockapp should be installed by default on any distro offering wmaker. And I'd also add wmsystemtray to the list. Until recently I considered using wmaker as synonymous of "I can handle editing fstab to contain the uuid of my usb sticks and creating a few dirs inside /mnt to mount them on" and I used to do that.
