This is mainly due to the fact that pidgin as well as iceweasel don't behave nicely. You may look into the developers' mailing list archives [1] for more information. There is a fix available but it's not in the mainstream windowmaker code, you should look at Carlos' repo [2] or my Debian builds [3].
