You may want to try one of the wmaker builds based on Carlos'
git repo. You can find builds for debian on my site [1], see the
instructions there for how to setup your sources.list file.
AFAIR there recently was a patch included which was supposed to
have wmaker support Debian's menu stuff (I don't use it though). 
You will also find numerous bugs (yes, there are some though not
many) fixed.
