Thanks Charles! I had to bumble around a little before i discovered WPrefs right where it should be (in the bin directory which also holds wmaker). (The first time it ran it complained that it could not read ~/GNUstep/Defaults/WindowMaker. And in fact, that file did not exist. So i did the very worst thing possible, which was to make a directory named ~/GNUstep/Defaults/WindowMaker. Eventually it dawned on me to remove the directory, then i could save the configuration.) Having tried both, i think the WindowMaker dock looks a lot better if nothing else so i plan to continue with it until i know a little bit more, and then revisit the issue.
