That won't work as smaples like the Y Window System, Fresco, etc. already prove. A new windowing system like that one in OS X is only accepted by its constituency if it provides legacy app support. And Apple had OS 9 support since first OS X release, added legacy X support and also did Swing support which makes Swing apps look like OS X. But I don't think that the OS X window system is 'sane' enough, due to the lack of network transparency. Regards, -- Anselm R.
